Skinner School began in November 1870 when the board of directors purchased the land from James Skinner, Sr. and his wife, Lucy for $10.00 and other considerations. The first building was built just south of the present building and was district number three. In 1909, it was changed to district number 29. Skinner School was closed at the end of the 1954-55 school year. From then on the students were bussed to Eldon. In 1957 the building and grounds were sold to Leonard and Helen Schulte and the school house was made into a rental dwelling. In 1986 it became the home of Skinner Ridge Plants operated by Joan Schulte, wife of Gerald Schulte and daughter-in-law of Leonard and Helen Schulte. After Joan’s death, the building once again served as a rental dwelling.
